Boardman Township Proposes Sidewalk Along Afton Avenue

Project No.  MAH-Afton Avenue (SRTS); PID 117551

Boardman Township proposes to install 5-foot-wide concrete sidewalk along the north side of Afton Avenue from in proximity to South Avenue west to a proposed mid-block crossing where the project will cross over to the south side and continue to Meadowbrook Avenue, a total distance of approximately 1,900 feet. Additional improvements include new curb ramps/truncated domes to meet Americans with Disabilities act (ADA) standards, and the application of new crosswalk lines, as necessary throughout the project limits.  The proposed project will link the residential neighborhood to the Robinwood Elementary School.  No new permanent right of way is needed to construct the project.  This proposed sidewalk project is tentatively scheduled to begin construction in the Fall of 2025.

During project construction, a minimum of one 10-foot bidirectional lane of traffic shall be maintained along Afton Avenue, however, temporary lane restrictions will be necessary and accomplished utilizing flaggers.  Road closures and detours are not proposed to construct this project.  Lane restrictions/reductions shall not be permitted after normal working hours.  Access shall be maintained to all adjacent properties, businesses and intersection side streets for the duration of the project.  Maintenance of traffic information will be posted within the project limits prior to the start of construction.

While the proposed project will not result in any impacts to environmental resources, Boardman Township Trustees are seeking any comments the public may have regarding the proposed project.  Project-related issues the public may wish to comment on include, but are not limited to, the effect of the project on residents, the local economy, historic or cultural resources, etc.

Any questions or comments concerning the proposed project should be directed to Stephanie Landers, Deputy Township Administrator, by February 24, 2025 at Boardman Township Government Center, 8299 Market Street, Boardman, Ohio  44512, by email at slanders@boardmantwp.com or by telephone at 330-726-4177.
